Well actually I was planning to complete this last year. I already selected the pictures and then put them here, pending some captions and descriptions - since I had no time to do it. Kidding. I was just lazy to think and type. haha. There are no particular criteria in choosing the photos, capturing them just picked my interest - further pushing me to go farther, click my camera some more and capture even more moments.
Anyway, since I was planning to do a 2014 edition of this, I felt I had the obligation to finish this first. So, here it goes!
#1. "Simple Joys"
Nagsasa Cove, Zambales. January 2013 |
As we landed in Nagsasa Cove in Zambales, we quickly picked a place to settle in. Pitched our tent and let our selves loose and relax. While my partners-in-crime dozed of for a quick siesta, I strolled around the beach with my camera and chanced upon this shack. I assume that they are a family of local aetas basking in the noon-time sun. So I just sat there, in the distance, with my camera and clicked. I just love how the joys of simple living was being captured on this one.
#2. "Enlightenment"
Mt. Batulao, Batangas. January 2013 |
So what we did here was a night trek to Mt. Batulao in Batangas - a popular dayhike destination in CALABARZON. We wanted to test star-trail shots during this climb but unfortunately we were not granted with a clear, starry sky. So we just went of and sleep in our tent. Morning came and I was surprised by two things: our trail food was gone (flat tops chocolate pack) and this puppy just outside our tent. I knew something would happen because the sun was rising in that direction so I grabbed my camera and staked in for a perfect shot. Then this happened - the puppy turned and watched the sunrise! I clicked and watched the sunrise with awe with this puppy. I'm not really a morning person, but these kinds of mornings are just awesome.
#3. "Take the Leap"
Patnanungan, Guiuan. September 2013 |
We were sent for a fieldwork in Guiuan, Eastern Samar as a part of a project. As usual, I tugged my camera in my backpack and headed for the airport. I was stunned by the raw beauty that is Guiuan, with its surfing spots and hidden white beach, as well as the lime stone-clad mountains on the road from Tacloban to Guiuan. And oh, the San Juanico Bridge! I just see it in post cards and seeing it personally was astounding. As part of our work, we visited some families and I made sure we visit those that are in the islands - and that we did. As we landed in Patnanungan, I went ahead and with my camera in hand, just clicked without peeking through the camera. To my surprise, I had this caught this picture - with my team mate Mio Amahan mid-step as he disembarked our banca. These kinds of action shots, raw and undirected are the reasons why I shoot. Capture actions, emotions, and freeze the moment.
I think that's what cameras are for. Capture moments - more than capturing your face with a selfie stick.
