Balabac, Palawan

If Palawan is the Philippines' final frontier, then Balabac is the final frontier of the final frontier. It is located at the southern tip of the province - so remote that it is already near Sabah, Malaysia. Balabac is composed of a group of islands, each of which will definitely be a great feast for the eyes. Anyway, here are three of my favorite shots on our sojourn in this part of paradise.

#1. Polvoron-esque white sand

This part of Palawan is so devoid of tourists that there are no hotels or resorts here. Be prepared to get back to the basics. In fact, on our almost one week stay here, we spent the night at our hammock. There are already plenty of write-ups written about this piece of paradise that this area in Punta Sebaring was even compared to Boracay in the 70's. I do hope that this area stays the same, and if progress reach this area, development should be sustainable.

Thank god for tripods and timed shutter release
I came from Cebu for a work engagement before going in Palawan so I had my week's worth of work-related clothing. Therefore I had to take advantage of it and use it for a quick pictorial.

#2. Turquoise

In enjoying Balabac, you will have to spend most of your time at the boat ferrying you to and from other islands. So I picked this picture for this entry. In most cases, whenever I travel by boat, I spend my time sleeping. But this is an exception. The area is so pristine that you will be at awe watching the clear water all around you.

Perfect place to contemplate? Here.
Spending the time here while travelling to and from other islands is actually a soothing experience. Seeing the horizon and thinking about nothing and just taking in all these beauty around you. Take note, this is just the boat ride part, wait till you bask in the sun, sand and sea at one of the islands.

#3. Yehey Milkyway - Balabac Edition

While we spent our nights sleeping at our hammocks, we still brought with us our tents just in case. So when the Milkyway showed up, we used the tent as our foreground. The remoteness of this island ensures that this area has no light pollution that would undermine the beauty of a clear, starry sky.

Sea of stars amidst the blue sea
Although this is not the first time I've seen the Milkyway on a clear, starry sky, I am always struck with awe and just have my jaw drop while staring at the night sky - pretty much like seeing this for the first time.

Seek the road less traveled. Travel beyond tourism. Enjoy and share the experience.
